Planning a wedding doesn’t have to break the bank—especially if you’re open to a little DIY creativity. With some thoughtful planning, you can create a celebration that feels beautiful and personal without stretching your budget.
1. Prioritize What Matters Most
Decide early on where you want to splurge and where you’re comfortable saving. If flowers or photography mean the most to you, focus your budget there and look for DIY solutions in other areas.
2. Embrace DIY Décor
From hand-painted signs to simple centerpieces made with candles and greenery, DIY décor can add charm while keeping costs down. Often, the simplest touches feel the most meaningful. Things like table numbers are fairly inexpensive to get vinyl numbers made (or make them yourself on the cricket) and place them on acrylic stands purchased of Amazon! A really cool trend I have seen that gives you expensive taste with seating charts is to have an old picture or painting and put the seating chart on there with a little bit of tape and wax seals (you can also purchase on Amazon). For the painting or art work, look at your local thrift stores or maybe even a family member has a nice picture you like.
3. Rent Instead of Buy
Instead of purchasing items you’ll only use once—like linens, chairs, or even vases—rent them. You can purchase items off of marketplace usually fairly inexpensive, and if you have the time and space you can definitely keep it and reuse or resell later! This saves money and eliminates storage stress after the big day. Reaching out to smaller rental companies can be a huge help too. They usually are more willing to work with you on getting you the best numbers!
4. Get Creative with Flowers
Choose seasonal blooms, mix fresh flowers with greenery, or even host a DIY flower arranging night with friends. You’ll save on labor costs and create something uniquely yours. Rental flowers are also a great option if you have that available to you locally.
5. Ask for Help
Family and friends often love to contribute. Whether it’s baking desserts, helping set up, or lending décor pieces, accepting support can be both cost-saving and heartwarming.
Your DIY wedding doesn’t have to look “budget.” With smart planning and a little creativity, you can design a day that’s stunning, personal, and affordable.
